Develop Activity Template

Task: Develop Activity Template

Deferred
Priority:
Normal
Type:
Task

Tai has volunteered to initial revisions of the Activity Template so we can incorporate notes from our first planning session:

  1. What will the Makerscouts learn?
    1. How long will each Makerscout activity last in a given session? How long will each activity take overall? (Suggest 8 hours for total module cap, 1-2 hrs per week/period.)
      1. Each Activity is broken into 4 total gatherings which each explore a single principle of the goal or outcome
      2. During each gathering, participants will do activities that touch on each of the STEAM dimensions, building towards the final goal
      3. Some activities include work-at-home or independent observation actions that take place between gatherings
      4. At final goal, results are reviewed and measured
      5. Template of an Activity in OpenAtrium
      6. How many different activities will there be? (Initial design of 3-5 Activity Modules.)
    2. How will Makerscouts be recruited? (Parents with kids at spaces will be invited to participate. We’ll all use our networks and the Space Federation to promote the activities and Makerscouts and take registrations.)
    3. Who will lead Makerscouts through each activity? (A facilitator selected from a Tribes. Facilitators will be given a Guide on how to Facilitate, Activities will include detailed Agendas and talking points, Activities will not require deep technical or precise skills to complete.)
    4. Where will activities take place? (At or around each Tribes participating.)
    5. Do Makerscouts get to pick & choose what activities they want to participate in? (We will present a selection of at least 3 Activities to the Tribes.)
    6. How will activities be scheduled? (Tribes will be free to schedule their gatherings on a calendar that works for them.)
    7. How will Makerscouts demonstrate what they’ve learned?

Project: Create Makerscouts PR Kit»Program Development

Oops, moving to correct Project.

As I am working on this, I see the program material being broken down to pieces like this

  1. Activity Guides- learning, acquisition (for facilitator and any volunteers)
  2. Workshop Guides - practice, application (facilitator & volunteers)
  3. Wrap Up Template - self-assessment prompts, presentation, celebration (this could be included in the workshop guides, but seems like there will enough overlap across workshops to keep it separate)
  4. Scout Guides - (for scouts) infographics, fun, exciting handouts to act like a mini wiki to empower the scout to experiment with the skill, machine, etc. Should include safety requirements, benefits of the workshop, "how to unlock badge", required materials and tools.  * These could be pieces of a larger instruction manual, paired with badges, to build excitement around what's next. I see this as separate from the portfolio.

Here is a template/ sample activity.
Please read/edit/add notes.

I am also working on getting a sample made of the other materials I mentioned last week, particularly the Scout Guide/One-pager. This may or may not happen before Saturday.

I really like what you did there. It would be a great way to get the kids active in learning. In my activity teasers I have a lot of "teach this" I think finding more interesting teaching methods like this could really make even the "lecture" portion of a module really fun.

We have not talked about this template as a group but it seems like it will be a necessary component.

There is a stab at the bloody stump rating also.

Here is a stab at #4 in comment above. Possibly call it the "Scout Dispatch"

I'll be working on a digital version of this, any thoughts on other sections that are critical to include or take out?
