Project: Maui Makers
Maui Makers is a makerspace on Maui. We have a blog, a googleGroup, a wiki, a 40' container sitting on public land (Hawaii Dept of Education) and use of ~1500sqft building from DoEd. The space is relatively centrally located in a cane field in the central valley, behind the sugar mill. Its almost directly under the flight path for planes landing at Kahalui Airport (OGG). Kinda out of the way and at times sketchy, but also pretty cool.
The legal entity is currently Maui Makers LLC, a sole proprietorship of Jerry Isdale, Benevolent Dictator of Maui Makers. The container belongs to him (me). We are in process of incorporating and starting our 501(c)3 application.
We have about 10 members who have paid $300 for a year. There are a rapidly growing number of other people who show up at our thursday night public meetings.
I also have an epilog laser cutter, a (currently dead) makerbot cupcake cnc printer, a Silhouette vinyl/paper cutter, a MyDIYCNC bot (in build process, still), and a whole bunch of electronics. We recently got donations of a number of wood working equipment, including table saw, bandsaw, drill presses (2), jigsaw, planer/joiner, and assorted power tools.
We are also the lead organization on the DARPA funded Hackerspace Space Program which is evolving into a seperate entity - SpaceGAMBIT
