We would like to get certain non-profit benefits from certain comapnies, for example Dreamhost, that require the 501(c)(3) Determination Letter.  Is this something we can get from you to receive discounted services from these companies?

We can send them the letter of support that indicates we umbrella you. Just post organization and address (preferably e-mail) that we're sending the docs to. Youll add the cases to the "Paperwork" project.

I have the Letter of Support but according to their site: "A 501(c)(3) determination letter is the only documentation that we will accept. If you are a non-profit organization and do not have a determination letter, regardless of the reason, you will be denied free hosting."

Weird. James?

I also noticed that it stated: "Please note that for individual organizations, this will unfortunately requires a determination fee from the IRS. It is however possible that you are covered by some kind of group exemption. If that is the case, we will need a copy of your parent organization's 501(c)(3) determination letter and proof from them that you are a subordinate in good standing."  We have the letter of Good Standing.

Also, looking at the eligibility requirements for non-profit status for Google Apps:

"- To be considered for inclusion in the Google for Nonprofits program, an organization's 501(c)(3) status must first be publicly updated in Guidestar's online database; copies of IRS letters are not sufficient for this requirement. Please note that this update can take some time after an organization receives IRS notification of its 501(c)(3) determination."

"- We only allow one membership per organization. However, branches of umbrella organizations that share Employee Identification Numbers (EINs) with their parent organizations are eligible for individual memberships. Branches must indicate that they are applying as a "related organization" during the application process and go through additional screening."

Since we have not been given your EIN number, does that mean that we don't share one and are therefore ineligible to receive this benefit from Google?

Daniel, OlyMEGA has successfully received the Google Apps for Nonprofits benefit through our fiscal sponsorhip.

Follow the appropriate links on the Google for Nonprofits page that contains the language you quoted about umbrella organizations, and start an application.

When applying, use School Factory's name and EIN when prompted for information about the organization. We initially put our nonprofit's legal name, but SF's EIN, and it was rejected. After sending them a followup explaining my mistake, we were quickly approved. It seems the other benefits take longer to process, as we're still waiting on our SketchUp Pro licenses...

Dan, did OlyMEGA's steps help?

We were never given the School Factory's EIN number.  I suppose I can grab it from the IRS site.  What about the Determination Letter for Dreamhost?  Is this letter something we can get or not?  Can your determination letter be used by a group that you fiscally sponsor?  I guess there's still a lot that's unclear about which nonprofit benefits we are eligible for as a fiscaly sponsored group and how to get those benefits.

I would happily give Dreamhost the letter. Like I said I just want to make sure it's not a single-shot deal, so we don't end up using up the free benefit on just one space. Our EIN is 200422699. (You can actually Google it, so I guess it's safe to share here!)

I understand not wanting to use the benefit on only one space.  I'm looking to the School Factory on clarification on uses like this.  Is this a single-shot deal or will they allow this to be used for each of the groups under your umbrella?

#12

That's my hope. Do you have a specific contact we can talk to about this, or have you heard anything back from a named person at their customer service department that I can follow up with?

Bump. Just want to make sure we got you covered--do you have what you need?
