OpenAtrium Guide

What's the general OpenAtrium workflow?

How do I make a new task/project?
Click Create Content in the upper right corner while you are in a Group.
Add a book page is what I would think I want to do to upload the 501(c)3 status letter, but I don't see a way to do that.
Child page? Parent page? What for?
When would I want to use a book instead of project or case?

Whenever you want to share or update knowledge instead of tracking accountability and actions.

How do I find people who have skills that I need?
Look at Members and look at profiles of individual members. We will expand the capability of Atrium to capture details about people's skills.

Why does atrium take SO LONG to refresh or go to a new page? (using google chrome on a mac)

What are Projects? What's the difference between a Case and a Project?
Projects are buckets that hold Cases. An example of a Project is, "Host a Fundraiser for our Makerspace" and within that Project, there might be several Cases that describe specific actions that need to be taken in order to complete the Project. An example of a Case would be "Set Up the Venue" or "Create a Flyer." Cases usually start with action words. In the Space Federation Group, each Space has its own Project and each Case becomes a to-do entry for anything that Space needs from the Federation. This will help us keep service to spaces transparent and organized.

What's the difference between commenting on a Case vs commenting on a Blog?
Commenting on a case is like updating the status of work, whereas commenting on a blog is participating in a discussion. Blogs are for raising ideas, announcing things, asking for help, getting people talking--like a mailing list, basically. Soon we'll have the ability for people to reply to comments via email, which will make it easier for everyone to participate.

Why do I sometimes see every comment across the website and sometimes not?
The comments you see depend on what you're looking at. OpenAtrium is divided up into different Groups that correspond to programs or places the School Factory supports. Jigsaw is one of these groups because Jigsaw needs its own space to collaborate on its own projects. So for example: see everything that is public, site wide see only comments in the jigsaw group
You can look at the top of the screen, to the right of your name, to tell where you are at:
vs. when you are at the 'top level':

Need help?

The notebook section provides a way for you to store and share information with your group members. With the book feature you can:

  • Add book pages and organize them hierarchically into different books.
  • Attach files to pages to share them with others.
  • Track changes that others have made and revert changes as necessary.
  • Archive books that are no longer of interest to the group. Archived books can be reactivated later if needed.
